HJB to build J-Class Rainbow

We are pleased to announce that HJB has signed the contract to build the stunning J-Class yacht Rainbow. Taking the America’s Cup winning boat from 1934 as their template, the designers at Dykstra & Partners have drawn the new 40-metre Rainbow according to the J Class Association maximum performance rules. Construction of the aluminium hull is already underway at Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw and we will take over the project in the spring of 2010.

The original J-Class Rainbow was designed by William Starling Burgess and launched at the Herreschoff Yard on Rhode Island in 1934. She soon became famous around the world after successfully defending the America’s Cup against Endeavour, winning four out of six races. Despite her enormous historical value Rainbow was sold for scrap in 1940 and her rebirth some seven decades later is keenly awaited.

”It is a great privilege for everyone at Holland Jachtbouw to be involved with the Rainbow project,” says managing director Paul Dielemans. “This magnificent yacht will race against the other J’s with great distinction and be the epitome of a classic performance yacht.”
