Sponsoring a bucketful of racing

For some years now Holland Jachtbouw has been one of the five main sponsors of the annual St. Barths Bucket. This legendary event for superyachts of 100' in length and over is one of the most popular gatherings on the sailing calendar. The 2009 bucket attracted no less than 35 entries, including Sapphire, Windrose of Amsterdam, Whisper and Shamoun.

One of the crucial reasons why the St. Barths Bucket is such a success is that it has retained the fun-filled, non-commercial atmosphere and spirit that was originally intended  (click here to read a short background history). The sponsorship money paid by HJB and the four other members of the so-called ‘magnificent five’ means the Bucket is all about great racing and social interaction between owners and knowledgeable yachting specialists, and definitely not about marketing.

At HJB we see this as a great way to give something back to the owners who support our industry. Several of our management team participate in the races as crew members every year, including in 2009 MD Paul Dielemans (above) and senior project manager Tjarko Ekkelkamp. HJB is also a member of the Bucket Braintrust, a body that shares in the decision making process for all major policy matters related to the event. We hope to see you there this March.
