WCM: Best Practice Personified
Holland Jachtbouw has adopted the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodology to support us in attaining and surpassing our goals in terms of cost-effectiveness, flexibility and quality. Managing Director Paul Dielemans is the driving force behind the implementation of this tool. He has direct experience with how WCM is introduced in companies and has witnessed at first hand its effect.
Paul worked in 2005 as interim manager at Blom Consultancy, the company which first introduced WCM from Japan to the Netherlands. The founder of the company, Steven Blom is personally involved in the unique challenges of introducing such a methodology to a ‘traditional’ environment such as yachtbuilding. “The benefits of WCM are clear,” Paul says. “It eliminates losses and hugely enhances the commitment of personnel to both the company and their work. This in turn results in an efficient and productive manufacturing environment that consistently creates high quality products.”
In short, we are maximising our performance in the areas that matter most and retaining a competitive edge. Holland Jachtbouw has its processes under control in terms of quality, price, delivery speed, delivery reliability, flexibility and innovation. For our clients, this means even greater value for money and a yacht that is launched on time.
There are other major plus points of WCM. “It facilitates a situation where continuous improvements are anchored within the organisation rather than controlled by the management,” Paul adds. “As people feel responsible throughout the company, personnel take ownership of their work and their input is optimised.”
Visitors to the Holland Jachtbouw yard often comment on the motivational and stimulating atmosphere.
