Hybrid Power

When looking at power demand on board a sailing superyacht, it seems that the sizes of rigs and sail plans have increased dramatically over the last decade, giving a need for more power from the sail handling systems.

When the power demand is looked at on a motoryacht, again increased demand for different systems, from areas such as the galley, zero speed stabilisers and electrically heated Jacuzzis make it more difficult to provide an efficient power plant.

Therefore the obvious solution was to integrate power and propulsion into one system – hybrid power.

Taken as an example of the success of hybrid power, the J Class, Rainbow had this system fitted on board when she was in build at Holland Jachtbouw.  Hybrid power for the J gives more volume to the interior accommodation as it takes less space for installation, silent night time running of systems and an efficient output during the day to run all the sailing power driven systems.
