About Sea Dragon

Launched in 1996 as Sapphire and later renamed Sea Dragon, this 31-metre aluminium sloop was designed by Hoek Design and built by Holland Jachtbouw in Zaandam. With her flush deck, moderate overhangs and elegant sheer, she carries the instantly recognisable Hoek signature.

The yacht was conceived as a performance-oriented cruiser. Her high cutter rig, deep fin keel and spade rudder provide excellent balance and responsiveness, while hydraulic winches allow powerful and accurate sail handling. The aluminium hull and superstructure are finished with teak decks, combining light weight with durability and timeless appeal.

The interior reflects a light and airy atmosphere, with mahogany joinery, white painted panels and maple floors. Instead of a single owner’s suite, Sea Dragon was laid out with four nearly identical guest cabins, offering great flexibility for private use or charter. In total she accommodates up to eight guests, supported by a crew of five.

Her sail plan covers approximately 535 m², delivering strong performance under sail. Powered by a 368 hp Deutz-MWM main engine, Sea Dragon achieves a top speed of around 10 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 9 knots. With a fuel capacity of 10,300 litres she has a range of about 3,000 nautical miles, supported by twin 34 kW generators and a Hydromar bow thruster.

As one of the yard’s notable projects of the 1990s, Sea Dragon represents the focus of Holland Jachtbouw on advanced aluminium yachtbuilding paired with classic design lines. She remains a clear example of the close collaboration between Hoek Design and the craftsmen in Zaandam.
